On April 8th, SNAM Area 2 proudly hosted our annual workshop and mini food show, bringing together approximately 200 attendees for a day centered on the theme, “From the Heart of the Kitchen: Real People, Real Food, Real Impact.” The event highlighted the vital role school nutrition professionals play in supporting students’ health and learning every day.
Attendees enjoyed a dynamic and engaging keynote from Vanessa “Chef Vee” Hayes of Georgia, whose message powerfully connected to the theme and left a lasting impression. In addition to her keynote, Chef Vee led a short cooking demonstration, preparing a speed-scratch dirty rice dish featuring commodity proteins paired with fresh herbs and vegetables—showcasing how simple ingredients can create flavorful, practical meals.
The workshop also featured a mini food show with 40 vendors, offering participants the opportunity to explore and taste new products, connect with industry partners, and gather fresh ideas to bring back to their programs.
Overall, the day was a meaningful reminder of the passion, dedication, and impact behind the school nutrition professionals and the meals they serve every day.
