President’s Message

Welcome back to another school year! I hope you all had an enjoyable summer and you are “recharged” and ready to get back to feeding our students. I know that I am fired up and ready to lead our association for the 09-10 school year.
Over the summer, I attended ANC in Las Vegas. Michigan had a great “presence” there, with over 50 attendees. I was so proud to be a part of that. Even better, SNAM won the greatest membership growth award in our division. Our membership was up by 9%. How awesome is that? While other states are struggling to retain members, our state is growing in membership, even in this very unstable Michigan economy.
With that in mind, I want you to ask yourself, “Why am I a member of SNAM’? Is it because of the top-notch State-Wide Training classes that are offered? Is it because of the networking opportunities you get from the amazing workshops and conferences? Is it because you enjoy the terrific state and national publications? Is it because you feel empowered to make changes through the legislative process? Or, is it as simple as it making you feel more recognized as a professional?
Whatever the reason is, I want to challenge you this year. Your challenge is to recruit one new member this year. Share your story with someone new and tell them what you find beneficial by being a member. Times are tough right now. School districts are making cuts left and right. So, now more than ever, it’s important to remember and to share your membership benefits.
I look forward to working with you all this year and meeting as many of you as possible. When you see me, please share your membership story with me. Our state has some rough seas ahead, but together, we can weather this storm.
